15.02.08 - Bangkok

Well since the last update.. I left thailand. Sob.

In the very early morning of the 13th (4:45am), I woke up to pack my bags and we jumped on the taxi to the harbour. We then had a 2 hour boat trip which I slept for 1hour 58minutes.. great :)

We then had a 1hour 30min bus trip which got us to Suri Thani Airport by 10:30am. I had my very last green curry and then Julian and I played some cards in our last ray of southern sunshine before boarding the plane to Bangkok by 12:30pm. The 1 hour flight went really quickly.. seeing as I slept for 56minutes.. Im getting worse than Bryan.. I can almost sleep anywhere now.

We arrived in Bangkok. everything smooth, and got a taxi to our beloved hotel. Even before we reached the front desk to check in, the concierge man who helped previously with my blister infection asked how my leg was.. I told him how a skin specialist said the positioning of bites may be a sign of bed bugs.. but this is such a nice hotel, I dont beleive that can be the case (is what I told him).. even quicker than he asked how I was, he offered to check us into a nice room and make sure it was suitable for me. (accccccceeeeeeee')

Our room wasnt ready, so we waited with our complimentary drink in the gorgeous bar for 15mins for him then to tell us it would be another 30mins. Starving, we ended up in Mcdonalds having a quick burger then headed back to the hotel. It was going to be another hour cleaning, so we got another room to have a nap for the hour. When we woke up feeling a lillt sleep, but mega excited about what our room would look like, we headed down a few floors to where there had been a brand new refurb done and opened our door to a totally pimped up version of the room we already had on the first visit. So cool it had an ipod docking station and flat screen biiig tv. It had the most amazing bedding.. the expensive kind where it pillow and covers slowly melt into your body shape. Amazing. Best part of the room. Although the nice toiletries and cool desk with leather folders and stationary were also nice :)

We headed out by 6pm and tried to get some shopping done. As soon as we got to the mall julian remembered how much he hated it and wanted to leave. I managed to grab a fake 1pound MAC pigment before heading out to meet andreas and anna at the night Bazaar. I love the market there.. its absolutely massive, like you cant beleive. They sell everything, mostly fake, but everything. I actually got a bit of shopping done and picked up my mooost wanted Vuitton travel bag. What a challenge though.. the man wanted 5000baht which is a fair bit of money.. over 70pounds. and no way I had that kinda money, and for a fake.. but after about 20mins of solid bartering (with a lot of help from Julian) I got it for my max price of 2500 baht. It ended in the one guy I had been dealing with saying no no no no no.. minimun price 4800 baht and his wife shouting at him as I walked away and throwing the bag at me saying, fine, go, 2500baht. I took it and ran.. before they changed their minds. Great copy though, looks really good, and I looove it :)

We done a fair bit of shopping and headed to the bar area - Patpong. We walked around, drank a little and eventually headed back to the hotel for some beers in andreas room. We ended up still boozing and chatting at 4am realising the next day was probably gonna be a little rough...

To add to the luxury we decided to splash out on a little room service delivery for breakfast in the morning. we ordered everything the night before.. freshly squeezed juices, tea, coffee, bacon, potatoes, eggs, tomatos, rolls, toast, fresh fruit.. everything. It arrived as scheduled at 9am, but we didnt realise we would be up drinking til 4am, so it wasnt such a welcomed knock on the door. But a little eating and then back to sleep in the ammmaaazing bedding.

That day started late as we woke up for the second time at 11:30am and pooped about lazy style til 2pm check out. Bad, I know. But we got a taxi toward Chinatown with a crazy driver who almost had me spuking because of his driving.. well, maybe to do with the heat too. But he dumped us in the middle of Chinatown and we realised we didnt even wanna be there, so headed toward the pier and took a boat north to meet andreas and anna at Kao San road for a drink and some food, and a final shopping spree. We bought some Tshirts and got some corn to munch. We walked up and down checking out the stalls in the cool heat of 6pm, nice night. I darted off at 7pm to MBK to pick up a few things.. more MAC, yes :)

By 8:30pm I was back at the hotel to find the guys already swimming, so I jumped in too for the last relaxation before the big journey. It was perfect.. roof top pool with pool boy included. Private sauna, steam and jacuzzi with views over the city and changing rooms Madonna would be happy with.. haha. I loved it. It really was a special hotel. I nicked the slippers to remember. Two pairs actually. :)

The journey begins.. A little time to relax in the fantastic Bangkok business class lounge with a great selection of finger food to munch on. Within the hour we were boarding the plane and managed to swap seats with a kind man so that I could be on the left of everyone (to hear then properly) and to sit in line with andreas and anna for some gabbing. We had our 3 course dinner.. Julian ordering the usual 3 glasses of champagne and 3 wines 'because he can', and almost instantly we were all drifting to sleep. Our flight started at midnight so we were already knocked out. The flight was good, slept 8 hours with a little moving around in the night.

Right now Im in budapest and we board the plane to dublin in 5 mins. Julian headed off to Hamburg and hour ago, so its just the 3 of us now. Tomorrow alone in dublin is a bit of a pain. Feels like such a long 3 weeks with so much moving about, I would have done anything to be back in my bed tonight. But the cheapest alternative is 50pounds, and Im still a student, so im gonna rough it out. But hey, life could be worse. I've got my hostel booked for tonight, then tomorrow im gonna go a little outta the city and visit a harbour and castle.
