12.02.08 - Koh Tao

well after a nice relaxing day since you last heard from me that night was spent walking along the beach to a nice resteraunt and eating yummy green curry. The next day we decided to check out another resort on the island and found a reeally nice 600baht bungalow (our most expensive yet). But not even that pricey for us Westerners ;)

Unfortunately we got a little ripped off when our taxi jeep only took us half way and told us to walk the rest. he got his money upfront too.. so didnt care. the heat and bags with dirt roads to the accomodation didnt make it so fun. but we managed. we had some breakfast in our new lounge and headed to our new beach. some relaxing, tanning and swimming before we picked up some more scooters and headed into tong sala - the main village - for a little look around and some food. we were there for hours walking in and out of the markets before arriving at this really cool outdoor food market. I choose a basket and filled it with my fav veggies and noodles then watched the stir fry them. took a while, but cool to see. We tried a little of everything.. some spring rolls, lemon shakes, corn sticks, chicken, fish, stir fry.. between the 4 of us, we had almost visited every stall.
Later that night Julian and I went over to Andreas bungalow (about 1.5seconds away) and had some bacardi cokes with the ipod playing. Managed to stay up til 12:30am before crashing..

The next day was really nice...

We spent alot of time with anna and Andreas, so decided to have some breakfast with them and then head out on our own for a bit. We found some cheaper accomodation too, as it turns out.. the 600baht room was the only room where I found cockroaches and frogs. And, if I may say, I handled them surprisingly well :) We were going to the 'Blackmoon' Party that night so wanted a room close by to stumble home to at whatever time in the morning. We dumped our bags in the new place. only 400baht and niiiice - lovely hammock on our porch and beach view.
So anyway, the nice day... after breakfast, julian and I headed to the north of the island where the beach is meant to be one of the best in Asia! Dammmmmit.. it was another dirt track, and the longest one yet. Luckily it was quite popular, so most of the road had some decent track marks already made. On our way there we passed an Elepahnt park. It was so sad, the elephants were chained to the tree.. I wanted to go a ride on them until I seen the Elephant tugging on its chain that was wrapped round its foot, using its trunk. Poor, Poor thing. Instead, I bought some bananas and fed him. I didnt wanna prmote that horrible place. only feed the sad animal. such a shame.

Anyway, we survived the dirt track and eventually made it there. As soon as we got there we lay on ther beach.. right next to us was a little open tent offering a massage.. sooo, we both took a full hour massage whilst hearing the waves splash. lovely. well expect 56 minutes were spent in pain.. A PROPER thai massage indeed!

We walked around the beach, swam in the waves before heading back. Absolutely starving we went to the most gorgeous spot on top of a mountain to watch the sun go down - it also serves my very favourite Green curry.. the best - very niiice. We picked up Andreas and Anna then headed back to our place for some pre-party boozing and snacking. The party was weeiiird.. techno music filled the beach, with the theme being 'glow in the dark', so we each got special paintings on our body and joined the flourescent fest. Fire dancers came out and performed on the beach which was cool to see. All for 300baht with a free drink. We danced a little, ate a little and at 3am, headed home.. knocked.

The next morning we got up and packed.. we were getting the 12noon boat to Koh Tao for a few days, which is where I am now. We just decided last minute to get up and try somewhere new. Glad we did, it was nice to see. not so many beaches, but the room we found has a gorgeous view over the ocean and we've had some nice food, boated to an even smaller island, snorkelled, watched thai boxing matches and scooted around to various bars and beaches. Tomorrow we head out to Koh Samui for two nights before the flight to Bangkok on the 12th. Plan to meet Bryan tomorrow night to catch up.. (see you then Bryan) and try top up the tan for the last 2 days on the islands.

Ah, the sun, I love it.
