It started in the early morning of Wednesday, June 13th in Hamburg Airport.. saying goodbye and heading to London. I then had to transfer from Gatwick to Heathrow, the entire time wanting to jump a plane back to Hamburg. Made it there reasonably smoothly and waited a few hours for my Camp America Girl to arrive and hand out the boarding passes. Met two guys in the queue who were cool - both heading to New York City Day Camps (lucky sods!) We had some lunch together after check in and hung out until our Air India flight to New York. The flight was actually really nice, it was maybe 1/3 full, so we nipped up to some front-row seats with a tv and lots of leg room.
6 hours later we arrived in NY. Absolutely shattered. We waiting in the Airport for 4-5 hours for other participents coming in. Nooot happy about that at all. I was completely gagging for some sleep. Arrived in our Hotel some hours later to find that we had to await an 'orientation' - this was around 10pm and even after some people were heading to the bar. I was one of the verry unlucky ones who's bus was leaving for their camp at the ridiculous hour of 3am.. WHY ME???
The next 17 hours were a mixture of sheeeer sadness, hilarity, sleeping, zombie mode, giggling and depression. We started in Newark --> New York --> Boston --> Portland --> Bangor (with a few other stops in the way). But it was in New York I met the lovely Sarah, and thanks to her, the 17 hours were kinda fun. Finally getting to Bangor with our mini van waiting to escort to Camp Robin Hood was only the beginning.. it was another 1.5 hours to the camp grounds. By this time I was exhausted and totally bused out - so mid way to the camp I began to feel sickish, having to stop two times to get some fresh air. Sorry.. but better that than I puke over everyone.. I thought :)
Well, got there.. camp was nothing like we had imagined.. oh, and the rooms were ABSOLUTELY FREEZING - I had 5 blankets + fully clothed (socks x2, jumper, tshirt, trousers, scarf & jacket).
Crazy crazy.. but managed to finally get to sleep at midnight. Despite the fact that we had been travelling for over two days straight with hardly any sleep AND despite the fact that there were no kids arriving for 11 days - they still thought they would wake us up @ 6am and have us working by 8am! Nice!
ALL I WANTED WAS A LIE IN, JUST A WEE ONE!!!!!!!!!!
